JOHNNY MARACA
Johnny Maraca takes you on a journey through at least 60 years of rockin' rhythm and blues, from late '40s R&B to modern-day rockabilly.
You'll hear the rock and roll pioneers including Louis Jordan, Amos Milburn and Tiny Bradshaw...legends like Elvis, The Killer, Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Ray Charles and Johnny Cash...and all kinds of rockabilly from Wanda Jackson and Carl Perkins to The Stray Cats, Chris Isaak and Toronto's own Royal Crowns.
You know those typical rock and roll oldies shows? The Riot is nothing like those! No ads for Depends and, while Johnny does play plenty of favourites, it is not a '50s hit parade. Johnny follows the roots...from The Beatles back to Buddy Holly...The Stones back to Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf...and includes plenty of classic covers from the likes of CCR, The Clash and Paul McCartney.
And who is Johnny Maraca? The alter ego of radio ad writer and producer John O'Mara. Over a decade ago, John was invited to take the stage with his friends, the London Ontario rockabilly band The Black Holes. Drummer Sean Anderson handed John the maracas and a legend was born.
