We are licensed to play music online by SOCAN, and have been since the beginning! We actually approached the various licensing agencies before they were even aware of who we were.

ANDREA NIXON RELEASES NEW SINGLE “BLIND SPOT”

Socially conscious song is Edmonton roots artist’s first new music since 2017 album Diary Of A Housewife

Andrea Nixon
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 4, 2020

TORONTO ON — Andrea Nixon is the type of artist who believes that life and music are inseparable. The Edmonton singer/songwriter proved that on her acclaimed 2017 album Diary Of A Housewife, which spent 14 consecutive weeks on Earshot’s national Folk/Roots chart and was described by FYI Music News as “following in the footsteps of trailblazing artists such as Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton.”

Now, Andrea has upped her game with a new single called “Blind Spot,” produced by Russell Broom (Jann Arden) and a song that will surely resonate with anyone who has struggled with finding an identity. It also serves as a timely reminder to be aware of those around us who may currently be engaged in that struggle.

As Andrea says, “‘Blind Spot‘ asks listeners to consider their own blind spots, both when they have felt unseen and unheard, and all the diverse voices that are currently muted in popular culture.”

Using her music to affect positive change is nothing new for Andrea. Following the release of Diary Of A Housewife, she embarked on a campaign focused around the song “Waiting For Sirens” to raise awareness and donations for crisis centres across Alberta. She also sits on the board of the Alberta Country Music Association where she is a fierce advocate for more female representation within the industry.

At the heart of it all, however, is Andrea’s irresistible voice, a vehicle she uses to boldly explore the landscape of heartache, angst, joy and humour with eyes wide open and heart in hand. It’s helped land her appearances at the ACMA Awards’ Fan Fest, Rogers Hometown Hockey, CCMA and Canadian Music Week showcases, and opening slots for Jessica Mitchell and others.

Andrea has managed to do all of this while raising her family and handling the responsibilities that come with being an independent recording artist. It’s more than a lot of people could take on, but for Andrea it’s all part of her ultimate goal to spend her life connecting with others in that magical space found only under the cover of a song.

 Scorching reviews:

“The Security Project expertly reimagines Peter Gabriel’s groundbreaking early output, creating an immersive experience both in performance and on its debut release Live 1. The group goes far beyond conventional tribute band territory, infusing the songs with new arrangements and elements while staying true to the spirit of the material. Gabriel enthusiasts across the board will be taken by the band’s high-octane approach full of drive, determination and energy.” – Anil Prasad, Innerviews

“What Security Project does is accomplish what’s been too long in coming: positioning Peter Gabriel’s music as repertoire. It’s clear that while the band treats Gabriel’s music with no shortage of reverence, it’s also about a more open-ended approach to the music.” – John Kelman, All About Jazz

“Somehow, like Gabriel, the Security Project’s performance strikes the right esoteric balance between the tribal groove of world music and the inscrutable logic of the best progressive rock. – Peter Lindblad, Elmore Magazine

Trey Gunn
A native Texan who resides in Seattle, Gunn is known for the unusual 10-string touch guitar that he plays. From the blistering live recordings at the Royal Albert Hall in London with David Sylvian and Robert Fripp (“Damage”, Virgin Records) to ten years recording and touring with King Crimson – a group many contend as the most aggressively, adventurous rock band of all time – Gunn is associated with a constant stream of cutting edges projects. Gunn has toured and/or recorded with TOOL, John Paul Jones, Maynard J. Keenan’s “Puscifer”, Vernon Reid, Azam Ali, David Hykes of the Harmonic Choir and Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree. He currently runs his own media label (7d Media) while dividing his time between solo work; his projects TU, KTU, The Security Project, 3Below and Quodia; film/TV scoring and coaching musicians in the creative process.

Happy Rhodes
Happy Rhodes is an American singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and electronic musician with a four-octave vocal range. Rhodes cites Wendy Carlos, Kate Bush, Queen, Yes, David Bowie, Bach and Peter Gabriel as primary influences. Happy began her recording career in 1986 producing 11 albums of electric and highly original material. She has been featured on Morning Becomes Eclectic (KCRW in Santa Monica, CA), the syndicated radio shows Echoes and The World Cafe.

Michael Cozzi
Originally from Wales & London, Cozzi got his start in the mid 80’s as the guitarist for the group Shriekbackwhich had the pleasure of touring with Simple Minds, INXS and Peter Gabriel. In the early 90’s, Cozzi joined Sky Cries Mary with whom he co-wrote 5 albums and toured extensively. During this time Cozzi opened up his recording studio Moscozzi Studio where he co-wrote and produced the last two SCM albums “Here and Now” and “Small Town”. He has written and produced music for bands, films, commercials, and video games, which led to him meeting and working with Trey Gunn. Two years ago Trey asked Cozzi if he knew of a guitarist for The Security Project, Cozzi put his hand up like a kid in the classroom and said “me me me”.

David Jameson
Keyboardist/Eigenharpist David Jameson began his music career in the late 1970’s – the heyday of powerful keyboard players. He spent several years touring with Time Machine and then left the music scene for a career atIBM after completing a PHD in Computer Science at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. At IBM, Dr. Jameson created and managed the Computer Music Research group and was elected to the prestigious IBM Academy of Technology. David left IBM to found Digiportal Software and more recently Deskew Technologies where he co-developed Gig Performer, a new audio plugin host to better address the needs of live performance/session musicians and which he uses in The Security Project shows instead of carrying any vintage keyboards (for which the other band members are eternally grateful!)

We here at RTDS are back to providing you with the most amazingly diverse music on the planet! And we wouldn’t rather be doing anything else.

That being said, there are some hard costs that need to be met, and that’s where we ask if you like what we do, there are a few ways that you can help, in a small way to help us keep doing what we do!

None of us are going to get rich doing this, but if you can help us out in the following ways, we’d spin a record for you 🙂
